Price Of A Nose Job
|
Question: I have just bought a JP X-Cite Ride 120L board and thought that it might me nice
to have one of the plastic nose protectors that you often see on hire boards.
So I enquired, and was told that these are available for £80 - (144 USD) which
is the JP list price.
The product is only a piece of plastic which no doubt costs less that £5 to
make, so £80 is a clear rip off.
Does anyone know of a cheaper source? (
Answer: The nose protectors are made of fiberglass and contoured to fit
perfectly each individual model, so there's a pretty small production
run... hence the cost.
The nose protectors retail for $85 USD over here, so I don't know if
your distributor/dealer has the correct price or not. You might call
Neil Pryde Maui and see what Kevin Ozee's price is.
The nose protectors you are looking for are usually available to
dealers on a pre-order basis, so they may be hard to find if you don't
special order it w/ your shop.
The foam pool noodle idea works pretty well, and is cheaper and
lighter. If you take hard catapults, the molded fiberglass nose
protectors offer better protection, but the foamies will take the
medium blows. If you look at boards that come back from rental
operations, those w/ nose protectors fare much better than the ones
without.
