Plastic Surgery On The Nose

Question:

What I'm not sure of is usage or meaning of "job" in the phrase. Isn't just "nose surgery" proper?

Answer:

"Nose job" is the colloquial expression. "Nose surgery" would not be incorrect, but it would be odd at best.

The "nose job" is a shortening or re-shaping of the nose for cosmetic reasons. The more formal term would be rhinoplasty.

"Nose surgery" would mean - at least to me - a surgical procedure or operation done on the nose for medical reasons. To correct a deviated septum, for example.

"Nose surgery" will cover any kind of operation on the nose.

A "nose job" is plastic surgery on the nose, the technical term for which is "rhinoplasty".

The surgeon will be a "nose specialist" ("rhinologist") or an "ENT specialist" ("otorhinolaryngologist").
