Nose Tip Surgery
|
Question: I would like to have nose surgery done but I'm afraid that the natural shape
of the nose will be altered after the operation and people might not
recognize me after it. Do surgical clinics guarantee that if they're asked to
reduce the size of the nose tip a little bit, they won't reduce it by
reshaping it in an ugly/unexpected way?
And can be the "flaps" of the nosetrills moved closer to the "axis" of the
nose without hampering breathing?
Answer: Rhinoplasty-surgery to reshape the nose, is one of the most common of all plastic
surgery procedures. Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of your nose,
change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or
change
the angle between your nose and your upper lip. It may also correct a birth
defect
or injury, or help relieve some breathing problems. During surgery the skin of
the
nose is separated from its supporting framework of bone and cartilage, which
is
then sculpted to the desired shape. The nature of the sculpting will depend on
your
problem. Finally, the skin is redraped over the new framework & it is the
adherence to this framework as well as shrinking of the skin that gives the
end
result. When rhinoplasty is performed from inside the nose, closed, there is no
visible
scarring at all. When an "open" technique is used and incision is placed on
the strip
of skin between the nostrils. When the procedure calls for the narrowing of
flared
nostrils, incisions are placed in the creases between the nose & lip or cheek.
When properly performed this does not hamper breathing.
Rhinoplasty can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general
anesthesia, depending on the extent of the procedure and patient preference.
