Nose Surgery Swelling
|
Question: Nearly a month ago I had some nasal surgery, and have been plagued with one
infection after another since then. When I got rid of the last one, I found
my face still hurt like hell, and the stitches still hadn't come out after
three weeks. The surgeon said he had no idea why it would still hurt, but
not to worry about the pain because everything looked good (thanks, buddy).
He removed the more accessible stitches, and the pain subsided a bit. I
asked about the other stitches, but he said he couldn't reach them and I'd
just have to wait until they came out on their own.
I am fairly certain now that the pain is caused by the inflammation around
the stiches. Having never had them left like that before, I don't know what
to expect. Does anyone know how long stitches take to come out on their
own? They are driving me crazy. It even hurts to sneeze, or when my cat
rubs his nose against my face when he wants attention. I can't believe this
is normal, yet the surgeon didn't seem at all concerned. I know I must tug
on the thread when I am sleeping, because it always feels bruised in the
morning.
You'd think by my age, and having raised two boys, I would know the answer
to such a basic question. But I don't. Help?
Answer: If you think you are tugging on the thread at night, do you think you
could get to them with scissors. I have totally forgotten where your
surgery was located on your body.
I have found that I swell up around stitches unless they are the
dissolving kind, making scaring worse. And the swelling is agony. It is
not infected but just my body screaming take the things out. The skin
puffs up so much seeing the threads to cut them is difficult. And no ice
doesn't help except to numb the area. Maybe that is what is happening to
you. I can't imagine that this surgeon why he would have put in thread
that didn't dissolve if he couldn't get to it.
