Nose Surgery Healing
|
Question: have been Type 2 since 10/02 that I know of. Take 4 mg Amaryl in the
morning with one Metformin with breakfast & one with dinner, 500mg. Since I
had nose surgery in November I have been totaly out of wack. Some bad
eating but usually I recover pretty good. Not this time. Seems I just
can't get my levels down. Yes been exercising but I exercise till I lightly
sweat. Is this too much? Any general ideas that might help.
Answer: There is no doubt that the operation has had it's influence on your bg
levels, firstly simply because any surgery stresses the body, and stress
raises bg levels, and secondly the healing process involves a certain amount
of inflamation at the site of the wound(s), another cause of raised bg
levels.
It has now been about 3 mths since your surgery, so I would figure all that
should be over by now, but there is a possibility that there may still be a
little smouldering infection lingering in there. How has your healing gone?
Are you feeling really well, and fully recovered? Do you have ANY symptoms
of infection or inflamation in the operative area?
If so, do go and see your doctor and get it checked out.
Otherwise, the remaining option to consider is that the already existant
diabetes has degenerated to a less managable state because of the stress
involved in the operation, and you will need to be more stringent and
careful in your management of this
condition from now on. You can no longer "get away with" some "bad eating"
on occasion.
By all means keep up the exercise, that is always helpful, but you are going
to have to take a long hard look at what you eat, and discuss upgrading your
medication, (in particular the metformin) with your doctor.
